Groningen museum visit: Russian Legends, Folk Tales and Fairy Tales

Last Sunday we visited Groninger Museum to see an exhibition of illustrations and paintings which depict the scenes and characters from famous Russian tales and legends. It was a great pleasure not only to see incredible artwork, but also to refresh the memories of stories that we know from our childhood:))) This beautiful picture Ivan Tsarevich riding the Gray Wolf was painted by Victor Vasnetsov.

Most of all we enjoyed the vibrant works of Ivan Bilibin. Here is one of his illustrations that we've seen: Ivan Tsarevich and the firebird.

This illustration for the tale Sadko made by Bilibin impressed me a lot! There are visible golden details which are still bright (despite of the age of this artwork. It's more than a hundred years old!)

I also want to congratulate Carlijn with a great succes of this exhibition! We've never seen such an amount of people standing in line at the museum! (except the Colosseum of course ;) ) Great work, Carlijn! :)
